Garden Notes Archives

 WELCOME Garden Notes Subscribers!!Guys, I seriously cannot keep up. I have had an outdated newsletter on this page for entirely too long,
so I have decided to go to the blog format after all. If you'd like to stay posted on the latest, then subscribe
to Garden Notes and I will send a weekly note to let you know the new information that I've posted there. It's really a pretty cool blog. I hope you'll check it out! You can find it at
www.Compost-a-Blog.com!  ::

 I will continue to update the monthly reminders on this page, so you can always find them here too.

PRIORITY LIST

Vegetables, Fruits, and HerbsOne way to preserve herbs is to freeze them in water. Chop the herbs into an ice-cube tray, cover them with
water, and freeze. Store the cubes in plastic bags in the freezer. Add these handy cubes as you prepare
soup or other dishes.

Tools and Equipment Monthly Reminders...Buildings and wood fences should be painted as often as necessary to maintain an
attractive appearance and preserve the wood. The cool, dry days of fall are an ideal
time for this activity. The job will enhance the beauty, usefulness, and value of
your property. It is also a fine contribution to community beautification and civic pride.

Trees, Shrubs, and Groundcovers Monthly Reminders...If you do not have a coldframe, build one now.

 Go over all the coldframe you DO have, sashes and greenhouse glazing, replace broken glass, putty, and repaint.

Perennials, Annuals, and Bulbs Monthly Reminders...The best time to buy chrysanthemums is in late summer as soon as they become available. For a longer blooming period, choose plants
that are just coming into bud instead of those already in full bloom.

 Plant autumn-flowering crocus, sternbergia, colchicum, and other fall-flowering bulbs as soon as they become available at
garden centers. Crocus and sternbergia need full sun; colchicum can be planted in areas receiving light shade.
